Graduate Institute of Nursing, the first in the Southwestern region, was founded in September 2008. Due to the high ratio of the elders and multi- chronic diseases around Yunlin and Chiayi regions in Taiwan, our educational goal is to provide the areas with skilled nursing professionals in order to meet growing healthcare demand, especially in the local Yunlin and Chiayi regions. The educational scopes of this institute are twofold: Advanced Clinical Nursing, which emphasizes clinical health care by Clinical Nursing Specialist (CNS); and Advanced Community Health Nursing, aimed at providing healthcare to the residents in the communities through Advanced Community Nursing Specialist (ACN).

There are five characteristics of our graduate education:

• We have small-sized classes, spacious teaching environment, e-learning equipments and rich practicum.
• Our faculties include nursing, professors and medical doctors from various disciplines supported with various research funds.
• Internationally well-known scholars and professors are invited to give speeches and teach courses to broaden the teachers' and students' global perspectives.
• Graduate students have ample opportunities to participate in research with the teachers in cooperation with industry or other academic institutes.
• Every graduate student has his/ her individual work area at the laboratory.
